World Osteoporosis Day – Supporting Bone Health Research
About Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a bone condition where bone loss progresses gradually without symptoms until a fracture occurs. It develops when bone mineral density and bone strength decline, making bones more fragile and more likely to break (1, 2 ).
Worldwide, osteoporosis and related fragility fractures are a major public health concern. About 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over age 50 will experience an osteoporotic fracture, and up to 37 million fragility fractures occur globally each year among people over 55 (3, 4).
